Keep calm... And do NRP

I know as NICU nurses we are never to utter the dreaded "Q" word, but now the day is done I can officially say that the unit was quiet and calm today.  All 17 babies behaved themselves so that Kate and I could spend time with each of the students reviewing head to toe assessments and teaching about thermoregulation using the isolettes. We were also able to spend a little more time with the 3 babies that are currently intubated, showing how to suction, provide mouth care, and position.  Dr. Mike attended his first day of rounds with the medical staff, which went very well and provided much needed insight into the types of issues that are commonly seen and the type of resources available.

After our amazing lunch at Shanta's (homemade curries), we spent the afternoon teaching NRP, neonatal resuscitation, to the OB residents. They did a great job and I am hoping this will lead to a stronger connection with the NICU staff  and improved outcomes for our babies.

The day was rounded out with a trip to Bourda market for some fresh fruit and veggies and finally a local brew on the breezy patio at project dawn.

Weird spiky fruit Randy made us try called ramatan, which tastes like a gelatinous nectarine
